Lady Gaga Does Jay Leno, Says Madonna Gave Her Blessing for ‘Born This Way’

After her fabulous night at the Grammy Awards 2011, where she took home 3 awards and put on an amazing performance, Lady Gaga was on Jay Leno to promote her upcoming album – and shed some light on the so-called “feud” she’s got going on with the Queen of Pop Madonna.

Shortly after the release of “Born This Way,” the first single off her upcoming album, talk began that the similarity between it and Madonna’s “Express Yourself” was too big to be labeled a pure coincidence.

Even music critics took to analyzing the two songs, coming to the conclusion that, indeed, one drew heavily on the other for inspiration in message, melody and lyrics.

On Jay Leno, Gaga addressed rumors that Madonna was so upset about being “ripped off” that she was actually considering re-releasing “Express Yourself” to prove a point.

Not only is Madonna not upset, but she’s actually given her “blessing” for the single, Gaga said, as the video below will confirm.

“There is really no one that is a more adoring and loving Madonna fan than me. I am the hugest fan, personally and professionally,” Gaga told Leno when asked about the frequent comparisons between herself and the Queen of Pop.

“And... Well, the good news is, I got an e-mail from her people and her sending me their love and complete support on behalf of the single. And if the queen says it shall be, then it shall be,” Gaga added.

“And I think it’s so important as well, I think today in music there’s the freedom in the song, the sort of R&B early 90s vibe that it has. It’s so full of love and spirit,” she said.

“I think it’s the spirit that people are reacting to the most. I just want everyone to rejoice and celebrate and be unafraid to be happy with music. […] Sometimes it’s just wonderful to celebrate life and kind of go to church with it,” Gaga added.

In the same interview, Gaga commented on her Grammy appearance inside a huge plastic egg – it’s a “vessel” she says –, her upcoming album, her fans / Little Monsters, her message of love and never-ending campaign for equality.

She also says she’ll be taping an HBO special of her Monster Ball, for those fans who did not and will not get the chance to go and see her live in concert. Check out the full interview below.
