Lady Gaga is taking performance art into a whole new realm: the singer is featured in the latest issue of Harper’s Bazaar, where she talks about her latest album, “Born This Way,” and how the protrusions on her head, face and shoulders are actually her real “bones.”

In all fairness, Gaga never tried to pass for anything even remotely close to what we understand by “normal,” which is perhaps just one of the many reasons for which her “little monsters” love her so much.

Speaking with Harper’s Bazaar about her new, edgier (in a very literal sense) image, Gaga fights back: she’s not wearing prosthetics, those are her actual bones and they’re only showing now.

This is the message of “Borne This Way”: whatever we do with or to our body, whether is tattoos, prosthetics or embracing a different lifestyle is an expression of who we were born to be; therefore, the difference between “getting” and “having” is erased altogether.

“They’re not prosthetics. They’re my bones,” Gaga says when asked how long it takes to have the protrusions applied to her body.

“They’ve always been inside of me, but I have been waiting for the right time to reveal to the universe who I truly am. They come out when I’m inspired,” she stresses.

“We all have these bones! They’re the light from inside of us. Do you mean body modification?” Gaga says, when asked whether she’s not afraid she will inspire other people to “grow” these bones.

“Body modification is part of the overarching analysis of ‘Born This Way.’ In the video, we use Rico, who is tattooed head to toe [including a skull on his face]. He was born that way. Although he wasn’t born with tattoos, it was his ultimate destiny to become the man he is today,” the singer details.

Rico is also known as Zombie Boy because of the tattoos that cover most of his body and that make him look like a human skeleton.

Like her message or not, Lady Gaga is going nowhere because she still has many things to say via her music, she stresses.

“People love you when they think you won’t be around for very long, and people hate you when they can’t get rid of you. But I’m not going anywhere,” she says of her motto.
