Another controversial outfit, another great performance

Lady Gaga pushed the envelope on family friendly television once more, as she appeared on the latest edition of American Idol on Fox. The singer took to the stage to perform her latest single, “Alejandro,” shrouded in a mourning veil that also doubled as a cape, and an outfit made entirely out of stocking and lace. Dancers were similarly attired, as the video at the end of the article will confirm.

The usually vivacious Gaga made her performance somber in tone as she sang her latest single, accompanied by a customized piano and a teary violin and electronic guitar. In true Gaga fashion, she opened with an impromptu, slower version of “Bad Romance” and then worked her way into “Alejandro” with a fake but still very dramatic Spanish accent. However, the version Fox chose to air was cut short (the performance was live but pre-taped) which, according to MTV UK, got the singer enraged because of the poor editing job.

“Lady Gaga is reportedly ‘furious’ that her performance on American Idol was cut short when the show aired in the US on Wednesday night. The eccentric singer, who appeared on the hit American TV show to sing Bad Romance and new single Alejandro is said to be ‘shocked’ that Idol bosses cut one and a half minutes from her six minute plus set. Gaga took to Twitter to express her anger, posting on her official page: ‘FOX POORLY + AMATEURLY edited+cut my performance/musical arrangement on idol.’ She added: ‘Watch real version... Fox chopped up my performance in 4 places’,” MTV writes.

At the same time, other voices in the blogosphere say that the performance, while still way above average and entertaining in every possible way, showed the strain of extensive touring and grueling dance routines. The usually energetic Gaga seemed at points to be struggling for air and to hold the note, occasionally even leaving a line half-way for the chorus to complete it. Her dance moves were also apparently slower and more controlled, as if she were having a hard time keeping up with the dancers and the song.

Then again, this could very well be just a misunderstanding as there is a possibility that Gaga herself wanted this to come out this way. Below is the video of her performance: watch and judge for yourselves, and, of course, enjoy.
