The Bill Cosby controversy has one upside: it’s encouraging rape victims to come forward and speak about their traumatizing experiences, which in turn can help other victims even if the rapists are never named. Lady Gaga is the latest to open up on such a painful experience in her past.

The singer sat down for an interview with Howard Stern the other day and spoke about “Swine” and how it tackled the theme of abuse, rape, and dehumanization. Stern pressed her for details and ended up saying that it “felt” like she was hinting the song was coming from a place of experience.

Gaga eventually confirmed it, as the audio snippet below will show.

Gaga was raped by record producer, thought it was “normal”

Lady Gaga has never made a secret of the fact that she was brought up in Catholic School. She tells Stern that, when she first came to the big city in pursuit of a music career and she was raped, her initial reaction was somewhere along the lines of, “Oh, is this just the way adults are?”

She wouldn’t say who raped her or go into the specifics of the incident, but she did say that the trauma took years of therapy and counseling to work through. Music helped a great deal too, because it was cathartic, and later on, the fans filled that void left by the rape with their love and unconditional support.

She never confronted her rapist because she would be “paralyzed” if she ever saw him again, and she never opened up about this troubling incident in her past because she didn’t want it to define her as a person or as an artist.

Today, because she already has a loyal fanbase and has made a name for herself, she can speak freely of it to let others know that they’re not alone. Today, Gaga feels, being a victim of rape will not define her.

Kesha’s attorney claims rapist was Dr. Luke

Minutes after the interview aired and news that Gaga had been raped spread like wildfire online, Kesha’s attorney hinted that the rapist was none other than Dr. Luke, aka the producer her client is suing right now claiming he drugged and raped her, and kept her a virtual prisoner by threats he would ruin her career.

Kesha is now trying to get out of her contract with Dr. Luke and her side of the story is nothing short of chilling: Dr. Luke is a monster who took advantage of the fact that she was young and innocent of the ways in the industry, and he’d often drug her senseless for many hours on end, during which time he did with her body as he pleased.

In recent months, he bullied her into losing weight (calling her a fridge, among other things) and pushed her into developing an eating disorder and addiction to drugs and alcohol. Kesha kicked off 2014 with a stint in rehab and made these shocking claims right after she got out.

Gaga’s attorney denies it

Gaga’s attorney didn’t take long to come out with a statement on the claims of Kesha’s attorney: talking to TMZ, he insists that Gaga doesn’t even know Dr. Luke all that well, having spent with him only a few minutes in total, during 2 business meetings. Neither time were they left alone for one second.

Regardless of what Kesha has been through at the hands of Dr. Luke or not, he never assaulted or raped Gaga. Saying otherwise is a shameless lie and an offense to Gaga, who has finally found the courage to open up on this painful topic.

The response from Kesha’s attorney is that he’ll be deposing Gaga in their case against Dr. Luke. In other words, he stands by his words.
