Lady Gaga breaks down in tears, sings for her sick grandfather in UK concert

When she released “Speechless” as a single, Lady Gaga said part of the inspiration came from her father who, at the time, was having some health issues. The other night, as the singer returned to the UK with her Monster Ball Tour, she broke down in tears during a rendition of it, dedicating it to her grandfather, who’s been hospitalized, the Daily Mail informs.

It’s not uncommon for Gaga to cut short her sets to address her fans on personal matters but, as the British publication puts it, no one really expected to see the softer side of her – least to see her burst into tears. Yet this is precisely what happened, as Gaga even urged concertgoers to sing as loud as they could so that maybe her grandfather would even hear them and get better.

“She is known for outrageous costumes and putting on one heck of a show. And Lady Gaga delivered on all counts last night as she brought her Monster Ball tour back to the United Kingdom. But what fans might not have expected was to see the softer side of the singer, who performed an emotional set before breaking down and crying as she talked about her sick grandfather who is in hospital. Dedicating the song Speechless to him, she told the audience: ‘If we all sing loud enough, maybe he can hear us!’” the Mail writes.

The moment was highly emotional and surprising, but it didn’t last long, as Gaga got back on the horse, as the saying goes. “Half way through the song, Gaga had to pause to wipe away her tears. Fans and reviewers were stunned to see her softer side. But it was not long before she was back in the normal swing of things, bathing in an angel fountain spouting blood and gets friendly with her female dancers. Her show in Nottingham is the first date of her second leg of the Monster Ball tour in Britain,” the aforementioned publication further says.

Earlier this month, also when singing “Speechless,” but this time in Sweden, Gaga took the time to address ongoing rumors of how she was on the brink of exhaustion – and suffering from an eating disorder on top. She had no intention of dying on vacation, she said, so, if she was to go, she’d rather go out when on stage, singing for her fans and surrounded by her loving fans.
