Only Nintendo will make games for the console, Pachter predicts

If more and more third-party companies start abandoning the Wii U, the console will eventually turn into the classic Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), a device that only received games from Nintendo itself.

Nintendo released the Wii U last year and, despite a solid initial support from third-party companies, the console disappointed in terms of sales, and quite a few developers are currently re-examining the device, while others have already ditched support for it, like Electronic Arts.

According to analyst Michael Pachter, who talked with News10, if more third-party publishers abandon the Wii U, the console will reach the same state as the NES back in 1985.

"The publishers are pretty excited to support the Xbox One and the PS4 – they really didn’t say anything about the Wii U. And we know EA has no games in development for Wii U. If Activision pulls support; if you see Ubisoft , you see Take-Two pull support, the Wii U is a Nintendo-only gaming device which is what they were back with the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1985."

Pachter emphasizes that, without big franchises like Call of Duty, FIFA, or Battlefield, the console is doomed.
