It's CES time all over again. And as I've said earlier in one of my presentations, this year seems to bug me even more than last year. Everywhere I turn my head, all I can hear is CES. But there's also a good part to this madness since in the next days, we'll probably see about 80%
of the products that will come out on the market in the first half of 2007.

One of the good aspects about CES is indeed the fact that you can see what you will buy in 3 months or so. For example, Lacie has confirmed that they will showcase their d2 Blu-ray burner at CES. The drive comes with dual USB/Firewire interfaces and supports 25 GB and 50 GB BD-R/RE disks and of course, all the rewritable DVD and CD formats.

There is not much more we can actually say about the external burner because the used hardware and burning capabilities are unknown. What we do know is that it will sell for $1150 but at the package, it will include a 50 GB BD-R disc and Roxio burning software. We don't know if the burner will also include compatible playback software but we hope it will.

Lacie seems to love Firewire above anything else because they have spawned an entire line of products that are totally different among themselves but use Firewire as input. Lacie's CES stand will also have a place for a pair of stylized Firewire speakers. Ratings and output power are unknown but as always, Lacie is kind enough to release information about the price which is said to be around the $80 limit.

But since we all know that Lacie's primary target are hard disk enclosures, the magnetic storage section will have its representatives at CES too. Rumors say that Lacie has prepared some enclosures protected by fingerprint recognition devices. The company will also showcase 1TB and 2TB Raid 5 storage arrays.
