The first victim of the train derailment in the Quebec, Canada area last week has been officially identified by authorities.

The remains of 93-year-old Eliane Parenteau have been found among the wreckage at Lac-Megantic.

According to the Daily Mail, Éliane Parenteau-Boulanger is the first of fifty people to be identified.

Officials have announced that the death toll in the crash and explosion on Saturday has risen to 24, as four more bodies have emerged.

Her son describes Parenteau as a very lively woman, passionate about gardening and baking. They last spoke on the phone two days before the accident. Her house was located next to the railroad, and it has been completely totaled.

“She had a spirit like David Letterman. She makes you a part of the joke,” he says.
