LaCie, a leading vendor of external storage solutions, recently announced the introduction of its updated versions of the 2big Network and 5big Network products, providing end-users with as much as 10TB of storage capacity, which can be accessed through a Gigabit Ethernet connection. The two new external storage solutions have been designed to provide SOHO users with an alternative to other backup and network attached storage products on the market, delivering improved performance and enhanced features, according to the company.

“Networked storage has become a way of life for small businesses and a feature that’s more commonly desired in the home,” said Edin del Mar, LaCie’s SOHO NAS product manager. “The evolution of these two products provides our customers with enhanced convenience and usability, demonstrating LaCie’s commitment to optimizing form and functionality.”

Designed to provide users with an easy-to-use and comprehensive backup support, the new LaCie 5big Network storage solution can be equipped with a maximum of 10TB of storage space, using up to five hard drives and featuring support for up to seven RAIN modes. According to LaCie, this is the first product in its class that can provide double-digit capacity. The 5big Network features a Gigabit Ethernet interface and is compatible with Apple's Time Machine backup software, iTunes, and comes with improved multimedia server capabilities.

The smaller LaCie 2big Network offers up to 4TB of storage space and support for Windows Active Directory (ADS). It also ships with client licenses for Genie Backup Manager Pro for Windows and Intego Backup Manager Pro for Mac, enabling users to easily back up data, documents, emails and other digital content. As with the 5big Network, the 2big Network is fully compatible with Apple's Time Machine.

According to LaCie, its newly updated external storage products will be available through the company's online store and at its partners with a suggested retail price tag of US$319.99 and US$799.99 for the 2big Network and 5big Network, respectively.

I tried the update on MAC OS Lion, to a 2Big network Version 1. as result my 2Big Network is down, red light no connection. Lacie is informed and is looking into the issue (great support). However DO NOT upgrade too fast, it took me two nights and the problem is not yet solved. Wijbrand1963.
