Taking a break from the rugged storage solutions development, hard drive maker LaCie has stepped into the spotlight in order to present tis latest portable HDD, the Rikiki Go, a new device with 500GB or 1TB of storage housed inside a durable aluminum shell.
LaCie's latest storage solution, the Rikiki Go, is an external hard disk drive that seeks to merge the benefits of high capacities and portability.
The electronic even has a fairly tough, smooth aluminum chassis, though the degree of protection is not on par with some of the previous products from the company.
One of the more noteworthy additions to the portable storage market was the
Rugged USB 3.0 HDD, whose speed was matched only by its physical endurance.
Still, even this level of abuse resistance does not compare to the
XtremKey, a flash drives with a 2mm metal pipe casing that has no trouble with being run over by 10 ton trucks.
The Rikiki Go does not delve into such unusual standards of ruggedness, being, instead, content with satisfying end-users needs for a product capable of carrying their files wherever they go.
Thus, it measures 75 x 109.7 x 13.4 mm and does not use the cost-increasing USB 3.0 interface, settling, instead, for the widespread USB 2.0 connection.
LaCie currently has two versions, one with 500GB and another with 1TB, and both of them come with 10GB of secure online storage, provided by Wuala.
What's more, they are sold in a bundle with backup software, so that system backup tasks may be commenced quickly and easily.
The newcomers are priced at $89.99 (500GB) and $149.99 (1TB) and are backed up by two-year warranties.
Full information may be found on the official product page that the hardware maker set up on its official
website.
