LaCie announced yet another external network attached storage system that is aimed for use in homes and small offices - the groundbreaking Ethernet Disk mini - Home Edition, that offers users a generous 500GB storage space as well as the ability to save, retrieve, sync and share personal files over a network. Apart from its storage capabilities, this LaCie product is the first commercially available device that is able to support remote access through the Internet as well as broadcast and stream multimedia files or act as a music server. A number of useful software applications like the DesktopMirror are also delivered with this product and they allow users to easily back up or restore a computer system with just a few mouse
clicks.

The LaCie Ethernet Disk mini - Home Edition is delivered pre-configured and pre-formatted for easy drag and drop of files and folders and, thanks to the included Axentra HipServ application, users are able to access their files over the Internet using only a simple Web browser, while at a local network level, a number of permissions can be set in order to grant or deny access to some or all the stored information.

''The new Ethernet Disk mini - Home Edition is an innovative online storage device that is the first of its kind,'' said Marie Renouard, LaCie Product Manager. ''This product offers a simple way to store digital photos, family videos and complete music libraries in one convenient location while making them accessible throughout the home or elsewhere around the world. Sharing pictures with friends or backing up office files, while on the road, has never been so easy.''

On the networking side the new LaCie external storage device comes equipped with a wired Gigabit Ethernet port that is compatible with both PC and Mac computer systems, while the presence of a high speed USB 2.0 port allows for the personal server to be extended by simply adding an external storage device.

The LaCie Ethernet Disk mini - Home Edition personal media server will soon be available (in October) and users may purchase it directly from the manufacturer's Web site or from the extensive retail dealers' network that will offer this product. Its retail price will be around $199 and interested users may extend the functionality of their media server by purchasing an annual subscription of $29.99 that would grant them the possibility to access the Premier version of the company's media portal. The subscription paid media portal comes with a number of extra features like the possibility to monitor and record video surveillance cameras and access stored media content from a large number of devices.
