Many external storage devices have appeared over the past months, and LaCie is taking things a step further by unleashing a new, dual-drive external solution that, in addition to large capacity, brings the benefit of high data transfer rates by means of the USB 3.0 interface.

External storage devices have been on sale for a long time already, always improving along with the rest of the industry.

One of the biggest steps forward, in recent times, was the development of the new USB interface standard.

Known as SuperSpeed USB 3.0, this interface is ten times faster than the USB 2.0 standard, which means it can communicate at up to roughly 5Gbps.

LaCie was most eager to implement it, it seems, as it has added it to the 2big USB 3.0, a dual-bay device designed by Neil Poulton.

While measuring 93 x 200 x 183 mm, the product has a weight of 3.6kg and can house two hot-swappable hard disk drives.

Said HDDs can have rotary speeds of 7,200 RPM and can be configured in several ways, the list including RAID 0, 1 and JBOD.

All in all, the electronic should provide a very high amount of extra gigabyte to any host PC, and the transfer rate of up to 205 MB/s should definitely prove more than satisfactory.

Finally, for a wide support range, LaCie made its new electronic compatible with not just Windows-loaded systems, but also machines running Mac OS.

The hardware maker is offering two capacity options, one of 2TB priced at $350 and one with 4TB, which costs $580.

Both are backed by a three-year warranty and can be seen in detail on the official product page that LaCie has already added to its official website. Those interested in full information or wish to place an order need only stop by this page.
