While the external storage market for home of small office is in full swing, the professionals need big storage solutions too and the latest RAID-based system from LaCie is going to satisfy all needs for more capacity and scalability. Unlike the external Golden drive aimed at home users that the manufacturing company recently launched, the new line of 2big RAID storage systems is addressed to a whole new market.

LaCie's new line of products is composed of 2big Dual, 2big Triple and the 2big Network and those models are ranging in storage capabilities from 1 to 2TB and are coming with advanced features and abilities that set them apart from the rest of the external storage systems available on the market today. Even if the design of the new
LaCie line of external storage devices is more conservative, they still come packed in a casing that offers an attractive natural cooling thanks to the sink metal fins that are coupled with a smart fan in order to achieve a whisper quiet operation and long reliability and performance.

The LaCie 2Big Dual and 2Big Triple are external storage devices specially built and optimized for high data transferring rates, as the 2Big Dual comes equipped with an external Serial ATA II interface which is the ideal choice for intensive tasks like audio and video editing programs. The 2Big Triple external storage device comes with a wider range of connectivity options as it includes high speed capable FireWire 800, FireWire 400 or USB 2.0 ports that can interact with just about any host computer system. The third new LaCie storage system, the 2big Network device, is an Ethernet based version of the above presented products and it can easily act as a file server or back up node.

"The new LaCie 2Big family is an important addition to our current product line", said Marie Renouard, LaCie Product Manager, who was cited in a company's press release. "We listened to industry demand and created a product that is not only stylish, but allows for massive capacity, high speed and security on demand. The two hot-swappable bays requires no configuration and assure that information will always be there when needed."

The 2big family of products is entirely based on a RAID-enabled storage solution which allows users to easily select between optimizing for performance or for safety. As the systems support the RAID 0 drive configuration, data may be written on both hard disk drives without any redundancy in order to achieve the best possible performance. But for users that like to keep a back up just in case something goes wrong, a RAID 1 configuration is also available which automatically mirrors data by splitting capacity into two identical volumes.

On the software side, the whole LaCie 2big drive comes with the EMC Retrospect Express application suite for advanced backup management and data restoration, which is compatible with both Windows and Mac computer systems. The 2big Network and Triple versions of the newest LaCie external storage tools will be available for purchase this month, while the 2big Dual version will come in October, and all products from the 2big family will have a starting price tag of $399.
