LUFTRAUSERS, a 2D action game developed by Vlambeer and published by Devolver Digital, has been released on Steam for Linux.

LUFTRAUSERS is a 2D game of aerial combat that is reminiscent of old arcade titles and that brings a new perspective on action games.

“The skies will be set aflame and the seas will overflow with wreckage in Vlambeer’s stylish arcade shooter LUFTRAUSERS! Select from over 125 combinations of weapons, bodies, and propulsion systems and take to the skies to battle enemy fighter planes, battleships, submarines, and rival aces for glory, honor, and high scores,” reads the official announcement.

The game has been made available on a lot of platforms, including Steam and Linux, and it's one of the few games that actually got a Linux version along with everyone else.

The Linux system requirements are rather low and will ensure that most players are able to get the game: a 1.2Ghz+ processor, 1024 MB of RAM, an OpenGL 2.1-compatible video card with 256MB of video memory, and 200 MB of available HDD space.

There is no mention of a specific operating system, so I guess that pretty much all major Linux distributions are supported. The game also benefits from a 10% discount that is set to expire on March 25.
