South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics is reportedly gearing up for the release of a 4G LTE-enabled flavor of the Galaxy S5 flagship device in India, and it might make this step pretty soon, the latest reports on the matter suggest.

According to Mumbai-based retailer Mahesh Telecom, the Samsung SM-G900I handset model will arrive in the country soon with a Snapdragon 801 processor inside, offering support for 4G LTE networks.

For those out of the loop, we should note that Galaxy S5 did arrive on shelves in India back in April, but that it was powered by an octa-core Exynos 5422 processor, which delivers only 3G HSPA+ (up to 42 Mbps) connectivity, courtesy of an Intel XMM6360 modem.

However, it appears that Samsung has decided to provide users in this country with some additional data speeds on its handset and that the new model will be powered by the aforementioned 2.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801.

A recent post on fonearena suggests that the device will be compatible with Airtel’s TD-LTE service, as it will include support for LTE bands – B1 (2,100), B2 (1,900), B3 (1,800), B5 (850), B7 (2,600), B8 (900), B40 (2,300), and B28 (700).

The new version of Samsung Galaxy S5 is expected to sport a MRP of Rs. 56,000. When made available for purchase, the handset should be a bit more expensive when compared to the 3G version.

However, it seems that the aforementioned processor will be the only thing that will be changed inside the device and that the rest of its hardware specifications will be similar to those present inside the already available 3G model.

The smartphone comes to the market with a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display capable of delivering a full HD (1080 x 1920 pixels) resolution, which is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

Moreover, it arrives with 2GB of RAM inside, as well as with 16GB/32GB of internal memory and with a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 128GB of additional storage space.

On the back, the smartphone features a 16-megapixel camera with LED flash, 1/2.6'' sensor size, 1.12 µm pixel size, HDR, and 4K video recording capabilities. Moreover, the handset comes with a 3MP front camera for making video calls.

Samsung Galaxy S5 is powered by a 2800mAh battery that can deliver up to 21 hours of talk time or up to 390 hours of standby time and runs under the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system, with Samsung’s own TouchWiz UI loaded on top.
