Most probably due to a larger battery to offer longer usage time

Today, Google and Samsung unveiled to the world the new GALAXY Nexus smartphone running under the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system and said that the device will offer support for 4G networks such as LTE and HSPA+.

It turns out that the LTE-capable flavor of the new device, the one that should arrive on shelves at Verizon Wireless in the near future, will be thicker than the HSPA+ version. Apparently, Samsung themselves confirmed that during the official launched event, though no specific details on the matter were offered.

Before the device went official, rumors on it being 8.8-11.5 mm (0.34 - 0.45 inches) thin emerged, yet Samsung did not say anything about a difference of millimeters between the two models.

The company did not offer an explanation on why the LTE flavor will be thicker, but the inclusion of a bigger battery might explain that.
