Owners of a 4G LTE-enabled BlackBerry PlayBook device on the network of Canadian wireless carrier TELUS can now download and install a new OS flavor on their tablets, namely version 2.1.0.1753.

The new release arrives with various new features and bug fixes packed inside, and is now available for users, the wireless carrier notes on its website.

According to MobileSyrup, users will enjoy enabled personal data encryption following the upgrade, as well as support for portrait views in Messages, Calendar, and Contacts apps.

Furthermore, the update fixes issues with the Kobo app and GroupeWise 8.0.2, and adds a new BlackBerry Bridge feature to allow users to send SMS messages directly from the BlackBerry Bridge application.

Before proceeding with the update, users should consider backing up all data on the device, so as to make sure that no important information is lost during the process.
