The shooting of the movie based on a screenplay written by Anthony Horowitz, adapted from his first series of novels about a reluctant teenage spy, began on July 4 at Pinewood Studios and in the Isle of Man.
The story revolves around a 14-year-old orphan, Alex Rider, who has been unwittingly trained all his life by his uncle with the skills to become a secret agent - scuba diving, mountaineering, martial arts and many other sports.
When his guardian, an MI6 agent, is killed, Rider learns the truth and finds himself forced against his will to take on a dangerous mission for the British secret service.
Andy Serkis, the man who provided the voice and the movement to Gollum in "The Lord of the Rings," will play Mr. Grin, the unfortunately disfigured henchman of megalomaniac villain Darrius Sayle (Mickey Rourke), while Stephen Fry will appear as Smithers, the secret creator and provider of exotic gadgetry to the spies of MI6.
Actors Sarah Bolger, Damian Lewis, Ewan McGregor, Bill Nighy, Sophie Okonedo, Missi Pyle, Alicia Silverstone and Ashley Walters are part of the cast for the "Stormbreaker" project, one of the biggest British independent movies in the past years, set at $ 40 million.
According to Variety, the company handling the project has sequel rights as well.
