Today, LINE Corporation has officially announced the availability of a new feature for its Android users, with the addition of support for its new “LINE Call” service in eight countries.

With the availability of the Android version of the service, users in Columbia, Japan, Mexico, Peru, the Philippines, Spain, Thailand, and the USA can now enjoy cheap domestic and international calls to landlines and mobiles.

As the company explains, LINE Call was made available as a low-cost IP phone service for all existing LINE users, and it can be used without any additional setup procedures.

Moreover, the service was designed to provide people with clear, uninterrupted, high-quality domestic and international calls to landlines and mobile phones in over 200 countries and regions.

The release of the service to Android users means that they will be able to continue enjoying free-call service to other LINE users, while also taking advantage of low-cost calls to other numbers.

The service is similar to the one offered by Skype, as TNW notes, and should prove a great option mainly to mobile users who need to call abroad, since it offers lower rates when compared to what wireless carriers usually ask for such options.

“The Android version is the first to be released, and is available by updating to the latest version of the LINE app (Android ver. 4.1.). An iPhone version is also planned for the near future,” the company explains.

LINE Corporation also provides users with specific info on call costs for different countries and regions via its website. Moreover, it notes that they will receive info on the cost-per-minute of a call on the dialing screen on their smartphones.

Basically, this feature was designed to provide users with the ease of mind that they always know how much they are being charged for a call.

“LINE Call is able to offer low-cost calls by combining the greatly reduced calling costs of IP phones with LINE’S ability to secure large-scale telephone lines in various regions,” the company explains.

“LINE Call takes advantage of premium phone lines provided by multiple major telecommunication service providers, as well as adapting the service to the unique capabilities of each OS and mobile device type, in order to offer uninterrupted voice calls of the highest quality possible.”

In addition to unveiling plans to add the feature to the LINE for iOS application soon, the company also announced that it aimed at making it available for people in more countries and regions around the world in the not too distant future, but that it had to perform call-quality tests first.
