Handsets such as Optimus 2X and Optimus Black will be left out of the upgrade

Earlier today, we wrote of LG’s plans to leave the Canadian version of its Optimus 2X smartphone with the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system loaded on it, without upgrading it to the newer Ice Cream Sandwich platform.

Apparently, the same applies to the company’s Optimus Black smartphone as well, another tweet from LG Canada confirmed.

In fact, the company explained that it does not plan on providing the Android 4.0 ICS upgrade to many of its earlier smartphone models.

The vendor already confirmed that it would push the software to Optimus LTE, and it appears that this will be the only handset set to receive the platform update.

“The Optimus Black will not be receiving the ICS upgrade. The original upgrade announcement was a general statement issued from HQ,” LG said in a tweet.

“Only the Optimus LTE will receive the ICS upgrade in late summer. Other earlier model smartphones will not be upgraded in Canada,” the company added.

Last year, the South Korean mobile phone maker announced plans to upgrade a range of handsets to the Ice Cream Sandwich platform this year, but it appears that this does not apply to all models.

In fact, LG Canada took it to Twitter to say that the upgrade plans are decided on a country-by-country basis, apart from the general announcement.

“Each country was responsible for evaluating its product line to determine an upgrade schedule based on the individual market needs,” the company explains.

“As such, each smartphone is reviewed on a case-by-case, and country-by-country basis to plan and roll out OS upgrades.”

Overall, this spells bad news for LG’s Canadian users. With only Optimus LTE poised to taste Ice Cream Sandwich, they are left out of the Jelly Bean upgrade as well, that’s for sure.

In fact, if the company follows the same pattern, chances are that Android 4.1 won’t arrive on many of its 2012 models either.
