South Korean mobile maker LG Electronics is reportedly getting ready for the launch of a 5.5-inch full HD smartphone before the end of this year’s first quarter.

The handset is also said to be slated for release on shelves by mid-2013, being capable of competing with Samsung’s Galaxy Note II handset.

The handset is currently known under the codename of GK, but its official name hasn’t been unveiled yet, eToday reports.

However, info on the possible specs of the new device did emerge online, suggesting that it would also pack a quad-core processor inside, in addition to the 5.5-inch full HD screen with a 400ppi pixel density.

LG has already promised new, high-end smartphones for the 2013 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, and the new handset might make its official debut there.
