South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics has already confirmed plans to launch a successor for the Optimus G smartphone later this year, and it seems that it might make the move as soon as early August, new reports on the matter suggest.

In fact, the handset vendor has sent out invitations to a press event set to take place on August 7 in New York, and the aforementioned mobile phone might become official on that day, rumor has it.

LG did not provide specific info on what will be announced at the event, but Optimus G2 appears to be the only possibility at the moment, UnwiredView notes.

The device has already been confirmed to arrive on shelves with a Snapdragon 800 processor packed inside, yet no other details on its hardware specifications were made available as of now.
