The two names have been trademarked in the US by the company

You might be familiar with LG’s G Pad 8.3 tablet that launched back in 2013 and made for quite a decent 8.3-inch slate.

More recently, the Korean tech rolled out a range of budget Android tablets that should compete head-to-head with Samsung’s latest Tab 4 lineup. The slates arrive in 7-inch, 8-inch, and 10.1-inch flavors and come with mid-range specifications.

However, it appears that LG has acquired a taste for building tablets, and since it does not look like we’re going to see a next-generation Nexus 10 tablet, which was heavily rumored to be made by the company, the PC maker is apparently focusing its energies on two other new devices.

The manufacturer has recently filed a trademark for the names LPAD and WPAD in the US (as seen on MyLGPhones). The PAD moniker tells us that we are dealing with tablets here rather than with smartphones, although the two upcoming products have been filed under the smartphones/tablet computers category.

PAD brings a certain tablet vibe to the story, but chances are that we could be wrong. The trademarks don’t reveal anything in terms of specifications, so, as it is the case in these early stages, we are left only to speculate.

Those familiar with LG’s nomenclature might remember that the company uses the “G” branding for its Android tablet products. So, could it be possible that it is gearing up to launch a new lineup of tablets, one that will make use of a different OS?

After all, it’s not farfetched to assume that these two new tablets will be running on a different OS, and Windows 8.1 is our first guess.

If we are to pay attention to the rumor mill, the Chrome OS tablet theory is still not out of the picture, so maybe LG is looking to make a bigger impact in the world of tablets.

While we wait to see what the deal with the new LG tablets is, you should know that you can still pick up the LG G Pad 8.3 from major retailers.

The tablet received its Android 4.4.2 KitKat update months ago, but be advised that installing the new soft has caused some users to have problems with their SD cards.

Also, if you’re one of those folks who purchased the tablet from Verizon, then you should also be able to update to Android 4.4.2 KitKat, as the OTA from Big Red has started being rolled out.

Currently, we have no info on whether the new build causes any issues or not, but we’ll keep you updated.
