Pursuing its plans to build a tablet capable to compete with Apple's iPad and Samsung's Galaxy Tab, LG has officially confirmed the launch of device. According to the manufacturer, the tablet will be available in the Korean and overseas markets during the first quarter of the next year.

Along with the unveiling of its tablet, LG also confirmed that Honeycomb, the next Android OS for tablet PC will be launched at the same time.

LG Electronics decided to launch a new tablet PC, so-called LG Pad, both in the domestic and overseas markets in the first quarter of the next year when Google unveils Honeycomb, tablet PC-version Android OS,” an unnamed senior official from LG Electronics declared for the Korean Maeil Business Newspaper.

The LG Pad will include an 8.9-inch touchscreen display, Android Honeycomb OS and NVIDIA Tegra 2 Dual Core Processor.

The company believes that offering a tablet that includes a display positioned size-wise between its main rivals (iPad and Galaxy Tab) might be more beneficial for the user.

While this might be true for some users, it is not that much of a decisional factor when buying a tablet. Even LG recognizes that its tablet combines strengths and weaknesses of the iPad and Galaxy Tab, so a fierce battle on the market should be expected.

While the existing tablet PCs focus on e-book, movie, music and the Internet functions, LG’s new tablet PC is jumping into the market with more diverse contents based on powerful functions,” added the said LG official.

Another official announcement with more details on the device previously leaked as LG Optimus Pad is expected to be released by the end of the year.

Even though important data about the tablet's specs has already been revealed, there's still a lot more to find out about the LG Pad, including its price.
