48-inch to 55-inch panels will debut by the end of 2013, and in early 2014

LG and Samsung may have spoken a lot about their OLED, curved and Ultra HD TV plans, but that's only because those things are new and hot.

Most of the money from their TV businesses come because of normal TVs: LCDs with CCFL and LED, though CCFL will soon go completely extinct.

It so happens that Samsung doesn't have any 48-inch TVs and wants to remedy this oversight, or so a report says.

The company intends to launch a 48-inch TV panel by year's end, and through it, reduce the demand for 46-inch and 42-inch models, as well as 50-inch ones.

This is because 48-inch screens are expected to cost as much to manufacture as Samsung's 46-inch ones.

Meanwhile, LG is going to introduce 48.5-inch and 55-inch TV panels in the first half of 2014.
