Not unexpected, since LG and Samsung almost always mirror their big product releases

I have just finished writing about the large and wide Samsung 105-inch curved display that will be showcased in January, and now I hear that LG too will bring one to CES 2014 (Consumer Electronics Show).

It will be more or less identical in specifications, if not in shape.

Called LG “CinemaScope” for now, the LCD panel has a native resolution of 5120 x 2160 pixels. That makes for a total of 11 million pixels.

Clearly, 2014 will be the year of the 21:9 aspect ratio. Not too shocking really, now that 3D and 4K (UHD quality, Ultra-High Definition) have taken their turn at being the center of attention, for about one year each.

The curved form factor will probably stick around as a fashion statement for the next half a decade.
