Canada's first (official) touchscreen phone

LG Venus has now become available from Telus, the third largest mobile operator in Canada, as expected after the announcement made a few weeks ago. What was not announced back then is the fact that the Venus can be bought for only $99 (that's in Canadian dollars, but they have the same value as the US ones).

Sure, to get the handset for this price, Telus' subscribers have to sign a contract agreement for no less than 3 years, but I guess that, for those who know they'll stay with Telus forever, the deal is a really good one. Without any contract, the new LG will cost you $399.99, while on a 2-year agreement its price is $199.99 and on a single year it's $349.99. So, apparently, there are offers for everyone.

LG Venus is the first touchscreen phone to be officially released in Canada, and Telus is sure proud of this fact. Moreover, the carrier said it will offer more touchscreen LGs during 2008, which is obviously a good thing for Canadian mobile users.

The Venus is a dual-band CDMA handset (800 and 1900 MHz) that measures 4.0 x 2.0 x 0.6 inches (101 x 51 x 16 millimeters), weighs 3.80 ounces (108 grams), comes in a slider form factor and looks very stylish. Among the phone's highlights we have a 2 inch TFT touchscreen display (240 x 320 pixels and with 262k colors), built-in GPS to be used with Telus Navigator, Music player with shuffle and repeat functions, Bluetooth with A2DP, a 2 Megapixel camera and microSD card slot. Other features include multi-tasking capabilities, Telus mobile TV, Telus mobile music and Telus mobile radio.

When bought, LG Venus comes with a stereo headset, 1GB memory card, USB cable and a pouch. If all this looks attractive, head on over to Telus' website, found at this address, and get yourself the very first Canadian touchscreen handset.
