Rumors of the LG VX5500 coming to Verizon Wireless have been circulating since August, but until now, none of them was confirmed. Now, we finally have something tangible about this device and, if everything turns out well, it seems that users who have already taken a fancy on this phone won't have to wait too long to get it.

Recent reports about the device have it that it will be launched before the end of October, at a price that can be considered more than just affordable – $49.99, with a two-year agreement and after a $50 mail-in rebate.

The phone has a clamshell design, and seems to be the successor of LG VX5400, which is currently available for free with a two-year contract. The LG VX5500 is a simple device, for people with basic requirements, and which screams neither uniqueness nor exclusivity. No, what we have here is a simple phone with a nice design, which makes it so that no user will be ashamed of it when taking it out of the pocket to make or answer a call.

When it comes to specs, the LG VX5500 brings users a 1.76-inch TFT internal display (176 x 220 pixels, 262K colors) and a 1.04-inch TFT external display (96 x 64 pixels, 65K colors), so that all those pics taken with the VGA camera will certainly be viewed in crystal clear quality. Other features and functions are Bluetooth, Mobile Web 2.0, Instant Messaging, VZ Navigator capabilities, voice commands and speakerphone. Promising 300 minutes of talk-time and 440 hours of stand-by time, the exact dimensions of the LG VX5500 are of 3.56 x 1.84 x 0.73 in.

As noted above, this is one phone that comes only with the basic functions or, at least, with what is considered basic nowadays. Besides the calling functions and a camera to take photos, users can also surf the Internet and do other stuff to keep themselves entertained – which is not half so bad, if you ask us.
