LG Electronics came with quite a few handsets at the annual Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, among which we could spot the LG GM730, a new handset based on Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system, also including LG’s own 3D S-Class User Interface.

According to the mobile phone maker, it managed to ink a deal with the Redmond software giant that would allow the company to be the first manufacturer to come up with a device running under the Windows Mobile 6.1.4 platform, which comes along with a new version of Internet Explorer.

Besides that, the handset will also include LG's 3D S-Class User Interface, unveiled by the company at the MWC show. The new UI is built upon a 3D cube layout, allowing users to customize different home screens, while flicking fingers turns the cube from a face to another. The interface drops nested menus where possible, offering a more direct access to applications.

“The combination of Windows Mobile and our new 3D S-Class User Interface will make the LG-GM730 the most functional and easiest to use smartphone ever created,” said Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Mobile.

The new LG GM730 comes with a large touchscreen, able to deliver a WQVGA (240 by 400 pixel) resolution. At the same time, the fresh mobile phone will include a 528 MHz processor paired with 128 MB of RAM. The quad-band GSM phone comes with 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity, along with a 5-megapixel camera, microSD memory card slot, G-sensor, and an FM radio.

Among the features of the LG GM730, we can count music and video player, email, web browser, calendar and contacts, as well as a wide range of third-party applications developed for Windows Mobile.

The company did not unveil too many details on the handset. It will do so when the device is launched.
