South Korean carrier LG+ and Boingo have just announced a partnership to bring Wi-Fi roaming and cellular data offload services to Android users.

Under agreement, Boingo is to provide global Wi-Fi roaming and various cellular services for LG U+ customers that use Android smartphones.

In addition, the carrier will license Boingo’s authentication software development kit (SDK) for Android platforms and will integrate the SDK into all Android smartphone in its portfolio.

According to LG U+, its customers will have access to more than 400,000 Boingo hotspots placed in different regions of the world.

International data roaming is very expensive, and this gives us a cost-effective data solution for our customers when they travel abroad. Boingo’s approach allows us to fully control the branded experience for our customers while extending their Wi-Fi access around the globe,” said Yi Seungil, vice president of Marketing Strategy Division for LG U+.

In addition, Boingo and LG U+ have agreed to offer the former's retail and wholesale customers access to more than 40,000 LG U+ hotspots in South Korea.

The current agreement is available for the next three years and is meant to offer customers who use Android devices “a seamless login experience” while they are browsing on the move.

Progressive mobile operators such as LG U+ increasingly see the value of bundling Wi-Fi access with cellular data services in order to offload the growing data consumption at home while providing cost-effective data solutions when away from their home network,” said Allen Pan, director of Asia Pacific for Boingo Wireless.

The partnership benefits both parties' customers who will have access to LG U+ and Boingo hotspots in South Korea, as well as other regions of the world.

Although the agreement was announced today, none of the companies have mentioned when exactly their customers will be able to access the aforementioned hotspots.
