LG and Motorola are the first companies to launch Android Wear watches

Even if its first smartwatch endeavor is not out on the market just yet, a new trademark filing suggests the company already has a new smartwatch up its sleeve.

LG was one of the first two manufacturers (along with Motorola) to pledge loyalty to Google’s recently announced Android Wear OS for wearables.

The details of the upcoming LG G Watch have been widely discussed in recent weeks. The company has just detailed the new features of its new watch on the device’s dedicated website.

It was revealed that the smartwatch would be made available in two colors, including Stealth Black and Champagne Gold. Apart from the two coloring schemes, we found out the G Watch’s screen never sleeps and is always-on.

Anyway, the LG G Watch will apparently arrive on the market as soon as this summer maybe even right after the Google I/O takes place; yet, even if the wearable isn't a reality just yet, it doesn't mean the Korean tech giant can’t be working for a successor already.

Actually, we already told you a while back of a report coming out of Taiwan that claimed the exact same thing: LG has another smartwatch in the pipeline, one that could be rolled out immediately after the G Watch.

A recent filing reveals LG has trademarked the LG W Watch. The name is a dead giveaway for the kind of device this actually is, namely a smartwatch, but what could possibly make it different from the LG G Watch meant for launch this summer?

The company’s first smartwatch will run Android Wear, but what if the second ran something else entirely? Maybe Windows or Windows Phone? The “W” could stand for anything, even for “water resistant.”

But isn't the LG G Watch water- and dust-resistant too? What if LG followed in Samsung’s footsteps and designed a smartwatch that could be used as a replacement for a smartphone, by boasting the capability of placing phone calls on its own.

Another possibility is the LG W Watch is just a variation of the G Watch, maybe a cheaper one like the Samsung Gear 2 Neo.

Anyway, this is just speculation at this point so until LG comes out and gives us some real hints, we don’t really know what to expect.

Nevertheless, it’s a pretty big surprise that LG is already gearing up to launch a successor for the G Watch, but the world of wearables really seems to be on a roller-coaster.

Expect LG’s first watch to arrive with a 1.65-inch screen with 280 x 280 pixel resolution and be equipped with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of RAM.
