The Bluetooth and audio controls take up more space than the buds themselves

Everyone on the technology industry is bound to release something strange once in a while, and this time around it's LG that is formally introducing a peculiar product: the Tone Pro headset.

LG Tone Pro is really an earphone set, but the press shot doesn't give an accurate sense of scale, and the angle might fool you into thinking that the two, thick ends are ear cups seen from the side.

That's not the case, though, something one is bound to suspect once they notice the earbuds themselves, and the fact that they are not part of the main body at all.

Instead, they are connected via thin cables, to the section that connects the two main “halves” together, and we'll say it now that it's not a headband.

LG didn't go for the normal layout, you see. Instead, it designed the Tone pro with the 3D NeckBehind style, which is pretty self-explanatory.

It's like a collar, you could say, and the two thick ends are meant to be in front, right above your collarbones.

In addition to the audio generating technology, the main body boasts Ambient Noise Cancellation (active, which is relayed to the buds themselves), JBL Signature sound, the Bluetooth connectivity chip, and the volume controls.

Basically, LG has introduced a collar with connected earbuds. A collar that doesn't stand out much, and whose ear buds you can apply and remove easily, without having to stuff them in a bag or pocket.

Spec-wise, we're looking at Bluetooth 3.0 technology with 2 profiles (Headset / HSP and Hands-Free / HFP), Advanced Audio Distribution (A2DP), and Audio/Video Remote Control (AVRCP).

The battery charge can last for 15 hours of talk time, or 10 hours of listening. Standby can extend the life to 21 days. Once the charge is depleted, you can restore it after 2 hours of recharge time.

All in all, the product measures 5.45 x 6.81 x 0.69 inches / 138 x 173 x 17.52 inches and weighs 1.23 ounces / 35 grams.

As a bonus, LG's Tone Pro headset features Advanced Multipoint, which allows you to pair the earphones with two Bluetooth-based sound sources at once, like a phone and tablet, or two phones, a phone and a laptop, etc.

Sales of the LG Tone Pro headphones should have already started, for the price of $70 / €70 through Verizon and Best Buy. The color options are of white, black, red and blue. Soon, other retailers and carriers will have them in stock.
