LG Electronics has reportedly managed to grab the second position on the mobile phone market in the United States in December, sending Apple to the third place.

The info comes from Hong Kong-based Counterpoint Research, which notes that LG grabbed 13 percent market share in the country for the last month, while Apple only accounted for 12 percent.

Samsung managed to remain on the leading position, with 33 percent market share.

“Optimus G and our other latest smartphones gained popularity in the North American market,” an official from LG Electronics said, according to Yonhap News.

Earlier this month, LG announced that its Optimus G smartphone had managed to top 1 million sold units worldwide, about four months after being officially brought to shelves, a figure that puts it well behind rivals such as Samsung Galaxy S III.
