LG launched a slender 2-in-1 that lasts long

Well, we were certainly not expecting this one, especially since LG has been quite silent in terms of tablet devices as of late.

The Korean company hasn't unveiled anything new since the advent of the G Pad family, which they were a pretty mid-range offering that didn't blew anyone’s mind off.

Unexpected: LG Tab Book Duo launches

Now, out of the blue and without much warning LG has rolled out a sleek and beautiful Windows convertible which it has dubbed the Tab Book Duo.

Its biggest selling point is probably going to be the long battery life, which the company estimates will manage to last users up to 11 hours.

Still, the LG Tab Book Duo doesn't manage to surpass products such as the Lenovo Yoga 2 tablet with Windows out of the box. The product is supposed to bring up to 15 hours of run-time, but the Tab Book Duo’s performance (if it turns out to be accurate) still remains quite impressive.

The Tab Boo Duo is a convertible consisting of a tablet part and a keyboard part. The tablet boasts a spacious 10-inch form factor coming with an undisclosed resolution, but we hope LG was smart enough to include at least 1920 x 1080 pixels onboard.

The convertible is probably powered by Broadwell

As for processing power, LG says the convertible packs a quad-core Intel processor, but it doesn't specify which kind exactly. However, given the slim form factor, light design and long battery life we’ll have to guess LG has used a fanless Core M platform.

As a tablet, the Duo weighs 530 g / 1.16 lbs and comes with a USB 3.0 port and microHDMI out attached. Snap the keyboard on and the weight of the Tab Book Duo advanced towards 729g / 1.6 lbs, which is certainly a bit more, but quite negligible in weight overall.

LG is currently offering the Windows 8.1 convertible starting today for the price of approximately $670 / €538 a pop. And since the holiday season is upon us, the company is offering something extra just to sweeten the deal.

So if you purchase the Tab Book Duo by next Monday, you’ll also be awarded a Microsoft wireless mouse completely free of charge.

The last time LG launched a convertible was back in July. The Tab Book11 is an Android tablet/notebook hybrid that takes advantage of Core i5 platform (from the Haswell family).

The notebook has an 11.6-inch form factor and offers 1920 x 1080 resolution. We’re hoping the Tab Book Duo gets the same treatment.
