Today, mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless made available for purchase a new handset running under Google’s Android operating system, namely the LG Spectrum 2.

Launched exclusively on Verizon’s 4G LTE network, the new device became available for purchase today through the carrier’s website, and is expected to hit Big Red’s retail locations in the coming weeks.

The mobile phone was put up for sale at $99.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate and with the signing of a new two-year contract agreement with Verizon.

The new device comes to the market with a large 4.7-inch True HD display, capable of providing users with a great viewing experience, while also being protected by Corning Gorilla Glass.

The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Krait 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, while providing users with fast data transfer rates on the wireless carrier’s 4G LTE network.

LG Spectrum 2 was announced with an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with support for full HD video recording, as well as with a 1.3MP camera on the front for making video calls.

LG also packed the new device with 16GB of internal memory, complemented by a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space.

“The Spectrum 2 by LG creates a unique wireless experience thanks to an ecosystem of features and accessories, allowing customers to avoid cables. The unique battery cover allows wireless charging, and it's included at no additional cost,” Verizon explains.

“Contacts, maps and websites can be shared wirelessly using near-field communications (NFC), by tapping two compatible phones together.”

“NFC can also be used with the included reprogrammable LG Tag+ stickers to create special smartphone modes for the office, home or car by tapping the stickers with the Spectrum 2 by LG. SmartShare also makes it possible to wirelessly view pictures and watch videos on a DLNA-enabled device,” Verizon continues.

The smartphone runs under Google’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, but it should receive an update to a newer version of the platform.
