South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics has announced today that it managed to sell a number of more than 5 million LG-KP500 “Cookie” mobile phones all around the world since the launch of the handset on the market, which was nine months ago. According to the company, this record makes its Cookie device the fastest-selling mobile phone in its entire lineup of touchscreen handsets.

“Achieving five million units in sales in only nine months is proof that we’re on track with our goal to make Cookie a phone that’s loved by everyone,” said Dr. Skott Ahn, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “Our strategy to provide a full touch screen phone at an affordable price has succeeded beyond our original expectations. If the current trend continues, we expect to see Cookie hit sales of 10 million by the end of this year.”

The LG-KP500 “Cookie,” the mobile phone maker added, has seen impressive sales records since its launch in more than 60 countries around the globe back in November 2008. The handset has seen great traction on the market right from the beginning, and managed to reach 1 million units sold during the first 14 weeks of availability.

LG’s Cookie comes with key features that are available in premium full touch screen phones, such as the 3.0-megapixel photo snapper, a 3D accelerometer and an Active Flash User Interface that sports widget icons so that its owners can easily access some of the most intensively used functionalities it packs inside.

The LG Cookie is currently available in an extended color series, including 10 new variants besides the originally available four: black, Vandyke brown, anodized silver and elegant gold. According to the company, the fact that this device sells so well on the market should help it see great attraction towards other touchscreen devices it offers too, including the LG Arena.
