South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics has just made official its plans regarding the release of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich updates for its latest devices. The vendor announced that it planned on pushing the new OS flavor to some of its smartphones starting with the second quarter of 2012.

Moreover, it unveiled that only handsets launched during the ongoing year would get a taste of this upgrade.

The roll-out will be of a global scale, and should take place during both the second and the third quarter of the year.

“During the second quarter of 2012 upgrades will begin for the following smartphone models: the LG Optimus LTE, Prada phone by LG 3.0, the LG Optimus 2X, the LG Optimus Sol, the LG my Touch Q and the LG Eclipse,” the company announced on Facebook.

“These upgrades will be followed by upgrades for the following smartphone models during the third quarter of 2012: the LG Optimus 3D, the LG Optimus Black, the LG Optimus Big, the LG Optimus Q2 and the LG Optimus EX.”

For the time being, no specific dates for the deployment have been provided, but the company promised a smooth roll-out process.

“LG will be taking all possible measure to offer a smooth OS upgrade in a timely manner. The exact start dates can vary by market, as each country can have different requirements, depending on the carrier and the smartphone model,” the handset vendor announced.

LG also notes that it plans on offering additional details on the deployment of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich closer to when the entire process kicks off.

A wide range of Android devices launched during 2011 are set to get a taste of Ice Cream Sandwich, and LG is only one of the vendors that committed to pushing the software upgrade to users starting with the next year.
