LG abstained itself from unveiling the G4 flagship at MWC 2015, leaving HTC and Samsung and their new One M9 and Galaxy S6 models to fight for the spotlight.

Word on the street has it that LG plans to completely redesign its upcoming top-tier smartphone, so we shouldn't except anything remotely resembling the G3 when the time comes.

We’re expecting to see the LG G4 go live sometimes next month, and while we’re utterly in the dark as to what the phone might look like and what specs it will bring into the equation (an Snapdragon 810 might be the powerhouse), the most recent batch of rumors indicate that LG might be cooking something else in terms of flagships.

LG is looking to extend its flagship portfolio

LG has been holding off from making a hasty announcement of the G4, because it doesn’t want its next flagship to resemble anything on the market. This spring’s top-tiers revolve around similar standards, but LG wants to think outside the box.

Nevertheless, talking to the Korean Herald in an interview at MWC, LG’s Mobile Chief Cho Juno has apparently revealed some of the company’s future plans. And they seem to be pretty massive.

Interestingly, Cho talked about the company’s plans of developing a new flagship lineup that’s to be positioned above the G series. This new collection of smartphones will go on sale sometime during the second half of the year.

Sadly, Cho was pretty skittish about details, so currently we can’t tell you anything related to how the new series will be better than the G series, but we can speculate.

Possible theories related to the mystery LG flagship

It might be possible that the tech giant wants to dab into the dual-edged display game. After all, the company did put on display a Galaxy S6 Edge lookalike as early as CES 2015, so until the second half of the year, the company could have enough time to perfect it.

On the other hand, maybe LG is planning to burst out a competitor for Samsung’s popular Galaxy Note lineup, one which would enjoy the services of a smart pen.

LG also offered the LG G Pro family, as a larger-screen counterpart based on a given LG flagship phone, but the lineup was eventually killed off back in December.
