The Internet of Things is a concept which suggests that all electronics should be interconnected somehow, preferably via cloud servers, but it's not easy to make the leap all the way there, so a step-by-step approach is needed.
A big such step has just been taken by the technological community.
LG, Panasonic, Sharp, Silicon Image and networking expert TP-Link have pooled their resources, forming the AllSeen Alliance.
The new alliance will have as end goal the creation of a framework which allows routers, TVs, set-top boxes, TVs, smart lighting systems and other devices to interact in a home.
That goes for all operating systems (Android, Windows, iOS, Mac, Linux).
This was attempted before, but there wasn't much drive behind it, and definitely not such high-tier corporation support.
Alas, there's no way to tell how long it will take for any palpable progress to be made in this.
