South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics has just announced the launch of a new smartphone on the Korean market, namely the LG Optimus Z (LG-SU950/KU9500). According to the company, the new smartphone is set to become available for purchase in the country via wireless carriers SK Telecom and KT, and would be added to LG's Optimus Series.

The LG Optimus Z comes with a singular, stylish design, while running under Google's Android 2.1 operating system. According to LG, the device would taste Android 2.2 before the end of the ongoing year, the same as the entire Optimus Series. The handset comes with a matte-finish metal and a unique “Zstyle” design, while being only 11.05 mm thin.

At launch, LG Optimus Z should include over 100 of the most popular applications in Korea, in addition to a number of 70 apps that have not been included in the Android Market as of yet. More apps should be available for download via SK Telecom's and KT's application stores. This is the third LG Optimus Series device launched around the world, and should be followed by more handsets, the company announced.

The specifications list of the new device includes a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, a 3.5-inch “Hyper” HD LCD touchscreen display that boasts a 800 x 480 pixel resolution, two 1,350mAh batteries for extended usage time, a 5-megapixel photo snapper, advanced multimedia features, including Korea-specific T-DMB mobile TV, or Dolby Mobile and DivX compatibility.

“In a first for Korean smartphones, the LG Optimus Z offers On Screen Phone function that lets user display their phone interface on the screen of their PC. Using Bluetooth or a data cable, the interface will appear onscreen, letting users manage the phone’s various functions – including applications and e-mail – on the computer. In addition, any documents, images or music files stored on the PC can be easily transferred to Optimus Z using this interface. Furthermore, Drag & Shake allows LG Optimus Z users to share files between smartphones with a simple shake of the handset, while LG Air Sync lets them constantly sync the phone with their PCs or other mobile digital devices,” the company announced.
