U.S. Cellular has just announced that starting today it is offering the LG Optimus U and LG Apex Android smartphones to prepaid customers, along with two affordable prepaid data options.

Those interested in U.S. Cellular's new offer can purchase the LG Optimus U for just $199.99 or the LG Apex for $249.99.

Also, for $60 prepaid customers will get unlimited messaging, 2GB of data and 450 voice minutes while users who choose to pay for the $70 option will get 2GB of data with unlimited voice minutes and messaging.

Smartphones keep customers connected in more ways than ever – from talk and text to e-mail and their favorite social networks,” said Dave Kimbell, vice president of marketing for U.S. Cellular.

Wireless customers can come to U.S. Cellular and get a powerful smartphone and affordable prepaid plan backed by our network, and experience firsthand why U.S. Cellular has the happiest customers in wireless.”

LG Optimus U is U.S. Cellular's own branded Optimus One and features the same sleek and stylish form factor.

The handset sports a 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen and virtual QWERTY keyboard with Swype technology that allows users to input text quickly.

In addition to the 170 MB user available and 512 MB RAM, the phone features a microSD card slot for memory expansion, as well as an extra 2GB microSD card that is delivered in the sales package.

At first glance, the LG Apex has the same layout, but at a closer look one can see the slide-out QWERTY keyboard, which recommends it as an affordable productivity tool.

The smartphone comes with the same size 3.2-inch touchscreen and features a 3-megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash and camcorder.

Both smartphones feature Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, as well as an MP3 player that helps users organize their music library and listen to their favorite songs.

In addition to the new prepaid data options, U.S. Cellular also offers prepaid plans with unlimited messaging and 200 voice minutes for $30 per month or unlimited minutes and messaging for only $50 per month.
