South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics has just made official a new handset running under Google's Android operating system, the LG Optimus Sol (also known as the LG E730).

The new device comes with a unique display, the handset vendor notes, adding that this is a feature that makes the smartphone a great option for those who need to use it outdoors.

The LG Optimus Sol comes with a 3.8-inch WVGA “Ultra AMOLED” touchscreen display, which “has a two-fold advanced reflection rate compared to standard AMOLED displays,” the mobile phone maker explains.

The rest of the handset's specifications are appealing as well, starting with the fast 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 application processor complemented by a 512MB RAM, and going all the way to the five-megapixel photo snapper the handset features on the back.

The list of hardware specs of this mobile phone also includes 2GB of ROM, complemented by a microSD memory card slot with support for additional storage space.

Moreover, the LG Optimus Sol sports 3G connectivity capabilities, along with WiFi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0, and DLNA support.

The device also comes with built-in GPS receiver, as well as with a large 1,500 mAh battery inside, capable of offering increased usage time. LG claims a 20 to 30 percent boost in battery life.

The new smartphone is powered by Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread mobile operating system, and should offer support for various Google Mobile services, as well as for applications available for download via the Android Market.

The new LG Optimus Sol is expected to become available for purchase in Europe sometime in mid-September, and should be launched in the Central and South Americas as well soon after that.

LG also announced that it would be releasing the new mobile phone in various color flavors, depending on the region, including black, titan and white. No info on the pricing of this device has been unveiled until now, but it should be an affordable option when compared to other Android phones out there.
