On Sunday, mobile phone carrier Sprint has added a new Android-based mobile phone on its airwaves, the LG Optimus S, an affordable device that can offer great capabilities.

Packing a large 3.2-inch touchscreen display, the new smartphone offers appealing features for users fond of Android.

With it, users will benefit from an on-screen virtual keyboard for text input for messaging, email, Internet browsing and more.

Not to mention that they can enjoy enhanced connectivity options with the new device, including 3G and WiFi capabilities, or Bluetooth.

At the same time, the mobile phone comes with Wi-Fi hotspot capabilities, so that one can connect a number of more Wi-Fi devices to the carrier's network.

A 3.2-megapixel photo snapper with video recording capabilities have been also included into the equation.

At the same time, the new mobile phone comes with support for various Sprint services, including visual voicemail and Sprint ID.

The handset sports a cost of $49.99 at Sprint, though users would have to commit to a two-year contract agreement to benefit from this price tag.

The new LG Optimus S comes to the market with Google's Android 2.2 Froyo operating system on board, and has been already rooted, it appears.

While this may come as a surprise for some, it shouldn't. Newer devices started to be rooted much faster than older ones were.

This is not due to weaker security measures Google and mobile phone makers pack inside these devices, but because those who root the Android phones are getting increasingly good at it.

Those of you who plan on getting one LG Optimus S from Sprint and root it should head over to Android Central Forums here to learn more on the matter.

Just keep in mind that rooting any phone would void warranty, even if it offers more freedom when it comes to the applications and software solutions one can install on the handset.

LG Optimus S is available for purchase on Sprint's website here.
