Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless is getting ready for the release of a new smartphone on its airwaves, none other than the recently made official LG Optimus One, which is based on Google's Android operating system.

However, it seems that the phone won't sport this name when made available at Verizon, but that it would be launched as the LG Vortex.

According to The Droid Guy, it should not be too long before the handset makes an appearance on Verizon's airwaves, even if no specific info on when that would happen emerged until now.

The arrival of LG Optimus One at Verizon hasn't been confirmed for the time being, but the handset's specifications are said to be a match to those of the aforementioned LG Vortex.

Thus, the smartphone should arrive at Big Red with a 3.2-inch touchscreen display that boasts a HVGA resolution, while being powered by a 600MHz application processor.

Other specification of the new mobile phone includes built-in GPS receiver, Bluetooth connectivity, FM Radio, and more.

The upcoming mobile phone should arrive on shelves with Google's Android 2.2 Froyo operating system on board.

For what it's worth, Verizon's users interested in trying out the Android OS on a better priced handset might find the LG Vortex as a nice option.

As stated above, there are no specific details available on the availability or pricing of this Android-based device at Verizon, but all the necessary info should emerge soon, rumor has it.

It appears that T-Mobile might get its own Optimus device as soon as November 1, and Verizon might consider making the move around the same time, though this is mere speculation for the time being.

Take a look at the photo attached to this article, allegedly showing the LG Vortex, and keep an eye on this space for more info on the matter.
