Although no official statement has been released the affordable Optimus Me Android smartphone is now available in India.

Discreetly launched by LG India the handset is available for purchase for Rs. 8,999 (about $200) directly from the manufacturer's stores across the country.

Optimus Me is yet another LG smartphone that strongly resembles the popular Optimus One.

The Korean handset maker seems to be a bit 'shy' when it comes to Optimus Me, as the phone was introduced via Facebook, back in January, and not through more 'official' channels.

Initial information about the phone's specs were scarce at the time of the launch, but luckily the Optimus Me made its way on the Australian market one month ago with all its technical specifications revealed.

Equipped with a 'standard' 600 MHz processor, the smartphone is delivered with Android 2.2 Froyo on board.

Even though it has been proved that Gingerbread operates pretty well on such entry-level devices, LG has yet to announce any plans to upgrade the Optimus Me mobile platform.

The smartphone comes with a rather small 2.8-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen with 262K colors support and 320 x 480 pixels resolution. It features an accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate and proximity sensor for auto turn-off.

The affordable smartphone packs a standard 3-megapixel camera with autofocus, geo-tagging and video recording capabilities (VGA@24fps).

The phone's name “Me” suggests that the customers should be able to identify with their phone, as the smartphone is available in five colors: Natural Silver, Micro Titan, Aqua Blue, Powder Pink and Glamour Red.

Other key features of the smartphone include: HSDPA and Wi-Fi connectivity, Stereo FM radio with RDS, 3.5mm audio jack, 140 MB of internal memory, microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB, 2GB card included), as well as GPS with A-GPS support.

Optimus Me P350 is powered by a standard 1280 mAh Li-Ion battery which is rated by the manufacturer for up to 450 hours of stand-by time or up to 5 hours of talk time.
