Although LG is not among the top three world’s leading handset makers, the Korean company achieved some serious sales milestones with its Optimus series smartphones.

After the huge success of the budget-friendly Optimus One Android smartphone, LG has just announced that it sold more than 1 million high-end Optimus LTE units worldwide.

Keep in mind that the Korean company achieved this landmark in only three months. Unveiled last year in October, LG Optimus LTE hit sales of 600,000 only in South Korea.

In the same news, LG highlights the success of the Optimus LTE with another interesting feat, as the company managed to sell 8,500 units in Japan, in the first day of its launch, which is a new record for the company.

With brisk sales for a high-end smartphone, the Optimus LTE reaffirms LG’s leadership in mobile LTE technology. The combination of LTE connectivity with LG’s True HD IPS display has resonated with the public regarding the potential of LTE technology,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Mobile Communications Company.

We can safely assume that LG Optimus LTE will soon reach the 2 million milestone due to the fact that the smartphone is now available in North America via three major carriers.

One of the first smartphones to feature an HD display, the Optimus LTE boasts a stunning 4.5-inch HD-IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen that support 720 x 1280 pixels resolution, as well as True HD Graphic Engine.

Aside from LTE support, the smartphone brings a powerful 1.5 GHz dual core Qualcomm MSM8660 Snapdragon processor, an Adreno 220 graphics processing unit, as well as 4GB onboard memory, 1GB of RAM and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB, 16 GB memory card included).

The phone runs Google’s Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread operating system, but LG already confirmed it would upgrade the Optimus LTE software to Ice Cream Sandwich sometime in Q2 2012.
