MetroPCS customers interested in the purchase of a new, affordable handset running under Google’s Android operating system can now grab the LG Optimus L70 smartphone that made an official debut at the carrier on Tuesday.

The new device was announced alongside the LG Optimus L90 phone that will land on shelves at T-Mobile next week, and comes with some appealing capabilities at a very low price.

To be more precise, the handset was launched at $49 (€35), after a $100 (€72) instant rebate, and it is already available nationwide via participating MetroPCS retail stores, as well as online, on the wireless operator’s portal.

The mobile phone carrier also announced that the new device was available for new customers who ported-in a phone number and willing to pay for a second month of qualifying service at the same price, to which a $49 mail-in-rebate would be added. Basically, they would receive the phone for free.

The new LG Optimus L70 was announced with a 4.5-inch touchscreen display that can deliver a WVGA resolution, along with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor inside, for increased performance capabilities.

Moreover, the new mobile phone includes a 5-megapixel camera on the back with support for full HD video recording, as well as a 2040mAh long-lasting battery, MetroPCS announces.

“The Optimus L70 is the perfect device for aspiring tech enthusiasts looking for all the smartphone essentials, network speeds and ease of use without the high price of other premium smartphones,” the carrier notes.

The specifications list of the new device includes 4GB of internal memory, a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space, and a VGA camera for making video calls.

The handset can offer up to 13 hours of talk time, or up to 528 hours of standby time, and packs 4G connectivity inside, along with Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi calling, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth, and NFC capabilities.

The same as the aforementioned LG Optimus L90 that will arrive at T-Mobile soon, the new device runs under the Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system, with LG’s own set of customization options loaded on top, such as Knock Code, and more.

“The LG Optimus L70 offers a powerful performance while dressed up in a sleek, modern design, so you can do it all with confidence and style,” MetroPCS notes on its website.
