The smartphone packs a quad-core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz

It's been almost a week since rumors on the upcoming high-end LG smartphone leaked online. In the meantime, LG and Qualcomm confirmed the device is real, though neither offered too many details its specs sheet.

Previously leaked as LG Eclipse 4G, the Optimus G has just been confirmed to powered by Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, probably integrated with LG Optimus 4.0 user interface.

Qualcomm also announced a few days ago that the smartphone would be equipped with its latest Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset which packs a quad-core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz and an Adreno 320 graphics processing unit.

Today, the folks over at Androidmx.net published the first pictures of the alleged LG Optimus G. In addition, two screenshots published by the same source confirm the screen resolution, processor frequency, amount of RAM and GPU model.

It is also worth mentioning the smartphone appears in screenshots as LG-E973, which is likely the Optimus G model number.

We also know the device packs 2GB of RAM and a stunning 4.7-inch IPS HD (768 x 1280 pixels) capacitive touchscreen display that supports 16 million colors and 320x319 DPI.

Last but not least, LG Optimus G boasts an impressive 13-megapixel rear photo snapper with autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording, as well as a secondary front-facing camera for video calls.

Aside from confirming the Optimus G will be packed with the Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset, Qualcomm also revealed the smartphone would be launched in South Korea in September. However, the smartphone will be rolled out globally starting October.

LG Optimus G is likely to be announced in late August at IFA 2012, in Berlin, Germany. No word on the pricing options yet, but given the fact that this will be LG's new Android flagship smartphone, expect it to be priced accordingly.
