14 DAY TRIAL // South Korean handset maker LG has just announced the upcoming availability of its new Android flagship smartphone, the Optimus G.
There have been lots of rumors surrounding this device in the past few weeks, but LG decided to go official with the handset.
LG Optimus G will be launched on the market next month in South Korea. It will make it to Japan via NTT Docomo in October or November, though we're not sure when it will be rolled out globally.
The bad news is that the Optimus G will be released with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system out of the box, instead of Google's latest Jelly Bean platform.
However, we expect LG to be able to deliver an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean upgrade soon after Optimus G hits shelves in South Korea.
At only 8mm thickness, LG Optimus G is one of the sleekest smartphones launched by the South Korean company.
The device is equipped with Qualcomm's Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 quad-core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz, an Adreno 320 graphics processing unit and 2GB of RAM.
Another strong point of the Optimus G is the stunning 4.7-inch True HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports 1280 x 768 pixels resolution.
On the back, the smartphone packs an impressive 13-megapixel photo snapper with autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording, while in the front there's a secondary 1.3-megapixel camera for video calls.
The phone embeds a 2100 mAh Li-Ion battery, which is the first to offer a lifespan of 800 cycles. Keep in mind that standard mobile phone batteries have a lifespan of 500 charges in best conditions.
We expect LG to offer more details on the availability and pricing options of the Optimus G later this week at IFA 2012 trade fair, which is set to kick off on August 31. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
