Unveiled back in August 2012, LG Optimus G made it to market a few months later, in November. The smartphone was launched with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box, but LG promised that the Optimus G would definitely receive more updates in the future.

It’s been almost half a year since Google announced the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system and LG has yet to confirm when exactly the Optimus G will receive the new OS as update.

Given the fact that Optimus G was not older than 18 months when KitKat was announced, LG was forced to promise that the smartphone would eventually be upgraded to this version of the mobile platform.

In fact, it’s unclear whether LG was pressured by Google to update the Optimus G to Android 4.4 KitKat or the South Korean company wished to please its customers by bringing this upgrade.

News about the KitKat upgrade for LG Optimus G was scarce until today, so those who own the smartphone are still probably reluctant to the idea of getting a KitKat update anytime soon.

Still, they will be pleased to know that LG has just kicked off the rollout of the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for the Optimus G. According to GMSArena, the update is now available for download in South Korea, but it might go live in other countries as well.

It appears that LG Optimus G owners in South Korea can update their smartphones OTA (over the air), although the file is about 608MB in size.

Aside from bringing the phone’s software to Android 4.4.2 KitKat, the update also contains all the unique apps and services included by LG in its own smartphones.

For example, the update adds the Knock Code feature, which adds a supplementary layer of security, while offering the option to quickly wake up the display by double tapping on the screen.

Many other features are included as well, such as QSilde and ART runtime support for better performance while running certain applications.

Last but not least, LG Optimus G owners will notice that the phone’s UI has been slightly modified to accommodate the features included and the new Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system.

Here is hoping that Android 4.4.2 KitKat for LG Optimus G will be available in other countries sooner rather than later. We will keep an eye out for any additional details, so stay tuned for more info on the matter.
